Designer's notes:
“When the rain stops falling” was one of the most interesting work that I have ever had. I was the assistant and operator of Tamás Bányai, a famous Hungarian lighting designer. During this production I gained so much experience on how to work under pressure. The director was fast and we needed to design the play during the rehearsals.
It was a unique play, not only because of the plot itself, but because of the scenery. The main stage was in constant rotation and in the back there was a raining system. It was hard work for us, because water was continuously dripping from a rain system on the stage. In this show I used eight Robe DL4S profiles and 18 Ayrton Nandobeam S3s. We needed to create a unique atmosphere. The play takes place from the 1950s to the far future, to 2050. Our lighting fixtures involved 20 footlight on the stage and two Dalis cyclight to create a car accident effect. We used normal ETC Source 4 juniors to create the basic lights.
I had the opportunity to think about the colours of the play. I used blue and dark toned ones, mostly LEE 117, 241 and 202s. Tamás gave me this task, because he wanted to teach me lighting design in every way. He taught me to not to think only about the big, enormous and breathtaking lights. I personally think a great lighting design depends on the small things. In order to have an amazing design, you need to deal with the small details. That play was full of details for me. I am really pleased that I was able to work with such a great designer as Mr. Bányai.
