Richard III has been one of the most memorable work experience that I have ever gained. It is directed by Andrei Serban, a well-known Broadway director. I worked in this project as an Assistant Lighting Designer and interpreter between the English-speaking director and the Hungarian-speaking theatre staff. The scenery was unique not only because it was only walls in yellow but the use of space was perfect. Our idea was to create one of a kind atmosphere which was in contrast with the scenery. We used numerous colours on the stage to express emotions. The director’s instructions were specific concerning the task of creating different places only with the help of lighting. We used intelligent fixtures mostly and some conventional fixtures, PAR64s and ETC Source 4s. The scenery was built up of yellow walls as I mentioned earlier. At the walls’ edges with a technician we built LED strips into the walls. They were RGBW LED strips and we created effects like rainbow or running effects. I made the CAD drawing of this play. It was a huge task, because we needed to build this play at a different place in the country at a theatre competition. I made the full patch of the play and I was the leader technician in this production. Sándor Baumgartner, the designer of the play, got an award for his lighting design in Richard III. That play was a real deal for me, because during making this production I learnt things like how to deal with LED strips, aluminium holders, soldering and several other technical things. Also, I gained experience in English because of the director. I am really thankful to my mentor for giving me the opportunity to work for him as an assistant, operator and interpreter.
