Designer's notes:
“10” was my last job with my mentor, Sándor Baumgartner. He gave me this play as a final exam. He was the lighting director in that play and I was his designer and assistant, as always. It was a real honour for me because it was a fascinating work. The production used live cameras and three big screens to broadcast the camera’s pictures. We needed to make the lighting as camera friendly as we can.
The play is about the ten commandments and played by ten well-known Hungarian actors. It is written by Csaba Székely a Transylvanian playwriter and directed by Aba Sebestény. We made the lighting design for 10 firstly in Hungary, which was a real honour for me. My true calling is art theatre so it was a great experience before my university studies.
I used only intelligent fixtures, because the scene-designer wanted to see the lamps. He integrated the trusses and the fixtures into the scenery. The main point was to make the fixtures visible. We lowered the trusses, so the
viewers could see them.
The play had 10 scenes and in each scene one main actor played. Between the scenes the actors were singing Latin songs about their stories. During the songs we created an atmosphere that showed the emotions of the song. That play was one of my best jobs and I am really pleased that my mentor gave me this opportunity to make that play.
