Hawthorn Wins Technical Production Contract for Hay Festival 2014
Hawthorn has been appointed by the organisers of the Hay Festival to deliver the technical production for its 27th arts, literary and science festival. The festival is being held at its traditional home, off Langdon Road, Hay-on-Wye, in Wales.Hawthornâs remit includes the provision of lighting, sound, audio-visual, staging, draping and power distribution over the 4 hectare site. The company will fit out nine performance spaces, a bookshop, cafes, restaurants and administration areas. The performance spaces will host poets and writers in the day, and music performances at night. Hawthorn will also provide architectural night-lighting throughout the festival site. Martin Hawthorn, managing director at Hawthorn and a regular attendee at the festival said: âItâs wonderful to be involved once again with the Hay Festival, a personal highlight of the year.
The international festival attracted 255,000 attendees in 2013. This yearâs festival will run from May 22 to June 1. The festival programme will feature Hollywood stars, including actresses Claire Fisher, Judi Dench and Jenny Aguter as well as comic Steve Coogan. The science programme includes Nobel Laureates John Gurdon and Tim Hunt, with geneticist Richard Dawkins talking to Joan Bakewell as part of the Cambridge University series.
