Manuel Garrido has been working as a professional lighting designer on Operas, Musicals, Dance and Theatre since 2009.

Manuel is currently working at United World College of South East Asia (UWCSEA-East) as a full time Theatre Technical Manager/ Lighting Designer for the Drama Department. Since he joined UWCSEA he has developed a well-rounded approach to the planning and implementation of the lighting design within an educational institution covering the technical, the artistic and the pedagogical aspects. He works one on one with students and teachers in order to develop an artistic concept for their performances. The creative process that is part of a lighting design has been scaffolded and broken down into simple steps for the students. Lighting workshops are conducted every year in order to guarantee that students are familiar with fundamental concepts such as lighting angles, colour, and basic programming from GCSE.

In 2013 Manuel designed Glass Anatomy, a Chinese Musical at The Esplanade National Theatre in Singapore. Manuel is actively involved in the professional local theatre industry. In June 2014 he designed the lighting for Ibsen’s “A Dolls House” at the Drama Centre in the National Library of Singapore. And in August 2015 he designed “December Rains” a Chinese Musical at Esplanade Theatre.
