Fridthjofur Thorsteinsson
Biography
Being from Iceland, Fridthjofur is a difficult name to pronounce. But fret not, everyone calls me Fiffi - even in Iceland - so don't be shy.
Born in Reykjavik, Iceland, but grew up in the small town of Isafjordur. Raised on amateur theatre, music and various other performance from early teens. Began a professional career in performance lighting in Reykjavik in 2005. Joined the Lighting Design course at the Central School of Speech and Drama in 2007 and Graduated (B.A. Hons) in 2009. Undertook an M.A, in Performance Design and Practice from Central St. Martin’s College of Art and Design between 2011 and 2013. Received the ETC award of the Michael Northern Bursary in 2009 for "Godfather Death". I have presented my M.A. work at various international conferences and publications, including Showlight, World Stage Design and Focus.
Known as the industry's Vectorworks specialist I provide support and training to both individuals and companies, including the National Theatre and Vectorworks UK - and multiple drama schools. As a theatre consultant I worked for Theatre Projects from 2013 to 2016, when I left to go return to a freelance career. Since then I have been involved in various new-builds, in a freelance capacity.
Lighting design credits include theatre, opera, dance, fashion, events and architectural design in the UK and Ireland, Iceland, Bermuda, around Europe and in the US.
