It’s early September and we would normally be prepping, packing and travelling to attend the annual PLASA trade show in London alongside related events such as the Knight of Illumination Awards. But for obvious reasons, that is not the case this year...

Trade shows are a great opportunity for us to chat and engage with those, working in the industry, training for a career, aspiring to do so or just interested to know more to assist their hobby or interests.  The loss of all these opportunities to meet potential members has led us to run a promotion this month for a discounted membership for the rest of the 2020-21 membership year which ends in March 2021.

If you have only recently become aware of the ALD, you may be interested to find out more via our website www.ald.org.uk where the public side of the site gives you a general overview of the services we supply and the support and information we can give.   Full information about individual membership categories can be found under the membership menu tab.

But there is so much more on the members’ private side of the website.  Our magazine, FOCUS, discusses the issues around live entertainment lighting.  We still print hard copies of each edition to send to each member six times a year if they wish to receive it, but there is also every edition since December 2006 available to members on the website in pdf format.

We also have a range of resources and documents to inform your contract negotiations, guidelines to assist your working conditions and reports from other organisations that highlight issues affecting our members.

Although we are a UK based and predominantly UK-centric organisation, we are open to membership from around the world and have members based as far from the UK as LA in the west and New Zealand in the east.  2021 sees us celebrate our 60th Anniversary.

If you have not been a member before or it is more than three years since you have been, we would like to offer you a joining discount in 2020. In addition, if you are joining as a Professional member and name an existing Professional member as your ALD Sponsor as part of the application process, they will also receive a £15 discount towards future membership fees once you are a member.

To take advantage of this offer, you need to apply before NOON on MONDAY 5th OCTOBER.  Membership will then run through to our annual renewal point of April 1st 2021, at which point the standard annual rate of membership will apply.
