Membership Categories for Individuals

There are four main membership categories in the ALPD, an overview of which can be seen here

Professional Member £102 p.a.
Open to anyone who can demonstrate a professional track record in one or more areas of lighting and/or video for live performance. Professional members have full voting rights and are the sovereign body of the association. All officers are accountable to them.
Professional membership can be gained under one (or more) of six headings. These are:

  • Lighting Designer
  • Video Designer
  • Programmer (for Lighting and/or Video)
  • Lighting Professional
  • Video Professional
  • Education Professional

In addition to receiving complimentary copies of Focus and full access to the ALPD web site, Professional Members also enjoy the following:

  • Listing as a Professional Member under whatever heading or headings the member qualifies for
  • Regular Professional Members Bulletins
  • Professional Members Meetings
  • A publicly viewable micro-site hosted on the ALPD website
  • Listing in the Professional Members Directory
  • Support from fellow Professional Members on the executive

More details are available here

Applicants for Professional Membership are asked to demonstrate at least two years of professional work in each of the areas for which they apply.

Members working in Lighting or Video with less than two years of professional experience are asked to apply for Affiliate Membership (see below).

Affiliate Member £60 p.a.*
For student members upon graduation and for young and emerging professionals in their early years of work in lighting and/or video for live performance.
In addition to receiving complimentary copies of Focus and full access to the ALPD web site, Affiliate Members also enjoy the following:

  • Regular Professional Members Bulletins
  • Professional Members Meetings
  • A publicly viewable micro-site hosted on the ALPD website

Affiliate Members however do not have voting rights.

Members may hold Affiliate Member status for a maximum of five (5) years. If at the end of this period the member does not wish to, or is unable to, upgrade to Professional Membership, their status will become that of an Associate Member and they will lose the additional benefits of Professional Membership.

* Annual subscriptions receive a discount depending on which year Affiliate membership you are in. Hopefully this means that as your career develops, you earn more and contribute more to the Association. Therefore actual fees paid are:

  • Year One            £48
  • Standard Rate    £60

Associate £48 p.a.
