Paule Constable read English and drama at Goldsmiths, University of London, and trained in lighting design while working in the music business. Her extensive opera credits include the lighting for more than ten productions at Glyndebourne (including McVicar’s 2011 production of Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg), and productions at English National Opera, Metropolitan Opera, New York, and Welsh National Opera.

Constable works prolifically in theatre and has won multiple awards, including the 2005, 2006, 2009, 2013 and 2020 Olivier Awards for Best Lighting Design, and the 2011 and 2015 Tony Awards for Best Lighting Design of a Play (War Horse and The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time). She campaigns for environmental awareness and freelance advocacy and aims in her work to use energy efficiently.
