Biography

+++ Profile A Lighting Designer, Production Manager and Educator who is a former production electrician / technical manager / touring electrician with 15 years experience of small to large scale touring venues and tours. Completed an MFA Lighting Design at Cincinnati College – Conservatory of Music May 2001. Taught and designed in UK, US and Canada, now based in Greater Manchester and is available to design 2-5 shows per year.

+++ Theatre Experience.

August 2017 Onwards:  Project Manager dbnAudile, Lighting designs and system design for the North West's leading lighting, sound and rigging supply company for the Events and Festival industry.  Hire of equipment.   Continued to with freelance designs all be it on a reduced scale. 

June 2015 to April 2016:  Systems Design, Project Management and Technical Managment, Fitting out the Attenborough Centre for Creative Arts (formally the Gardiner Centre), University of Sussex, Brighton.

October 13 to June 2015 and May 2016 to July 2017: Freelance Lighting Design and Theatre Consultancy, Productions in Malta, freelance work for Charcoalblue and self. Launch of new website and business

Lecturer in Lighting and Sound , School of Drama, Film and Visual Arts, University of Kent at Canterbury. Teaching a variety of lighting, production and theatre technology courses.

January 03 to August 06: Lecturer in Performance Designand Production , School of Performance and Cultural Industries, Bretton Hall Campus, University of Leeds, England One of 5.4 lecturers delivering a technology and art based design BA to 40 students per year.

Sept 02 to Dec 03: Freelance Design and Production Electrician , London UK. So far Designs at BAC, Middlesex University, ICA; Electrician for Fisher Productions. Architectural design of casino exterior. July / August 01 & 02: Lighting Designer , Young People in Dance, Margaret Greenham Theatre, The Banff Centre, Canada. Designing 15 dance pieces, with 6 different choreographers.

August 01 to June 02: Design Faculty, Lighting – Department of Theatre Arts, CSU Chico, CA, USA. Teaching courses in Lighting (intro, advanced and interior design), Stagecraft and Portfolio. Designed three shows, act as Resident Master Electrician and supervising all student designs.

September 99 to June 01: MFA Lighting Design Student – Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music, University of Cincinnati, Ohio, USA. Lighting for CCM productions of Les Mamelles and Savitri – Dir. Jose Maria Condemi; As You Like It, Dir. - Terrell Finney; My One and Only, Dir. Aubrey Berg.; Russalka, Dir Malcolm Frazer. (Also teaching as Adjunct Professor, see below).

Dec98 to September 99: Lighting Supervisor / Production Electrician – Opera North, Leeds Occasional Relights, liasing with lighting designers notably Hugh Vanstone on Carmen. Apr 97 to Aug 98: Assistant Production Manager / Training Co-ordinator - Theatre Arts, The Banff Centre, Canada. Liasing with lighting designers and setting up computer resources. Lighting design for The Spaces in Between, Choreographer Karen Barkley.

1986/87 and 1989- Aug. 1996: Theatre Electrician / Technical Manager , St Donats Arts Centre and Co.-Production Manager and/or touring technician for Music Theatre Wales - on up to 3 tours per year (to 1993). Informal design of 750+ shows that arrived without any lighting person, design of 6 – 10 amateur shows per year, and relights for the touring music theatre company e.g. Martyrdom of St Magnus and Fall of the House of Usher (LD Ace McCarron), Wizard of Jazz (LD and Director – Paul Stebbings), The Crossing (LD Peter Mumford). Stage, atmospheric and architectural lighting design for Vale of Glamorgan and Beyond the Border Festivals.

1988-89: Electrics Intern , The Theatre Complex, Banff Centre for the Arts, Canada. Lighting training and work. Lighting Design for Winter Studio Opera. 1981-86: University of Bradford Theatre in the Mill and Students Union Technical Services Association, Richmond Rd , Bradford, W. Yorks., BD7 1DP. Informal lighting design for visiting rock groups, numbering hundreds notably The Housemartins, The Q Tips, and Mari Wilson.
