Mark Doubleday
Biography
I have been a lighting designer for over twenty years and my work has spanned most theatrical genres. After leaving the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art, I started work with London Contemporary Dance Theatre where I remained for two years. I left there to assist various lighting designers on West End productions before taking up my first post as Lighting Designer at the Redgrave Theatre in Farnham where I lit over fifty productions. I left after four years to run a department in a commercial producing theatre before leaving to persue a career on my own. Since then I have lit productions on almost every continent and have remained in the theatre. Most recently my work has been in Opera, which is an area of theatre that I particularly enjoy. I am associate lighting designer for Tête à Tête Opera Company, a company committed to commissioning new work and performing Opera in an intimate way.
The purpose of this web-site is to give an idea of the kind of work that I produce. It is not exhaustive by any means and is intended as a guide only. The gallery section of this site has a selection of production photos. Some are taken by me when the opportunity arises, others are by professional production photographers, and are of course duly credited for their work.
