James D Stokes
Biography
James is a lighting designer, technician, and programmer working across the UK, with experience of number 1 touring musicals, West End, regional theatres, and fringe. He has programmed several small-to-mid scale tours, including My Beautiful Launderette for LD Ben Cracknell, and By The Waters Of Liverpool for LD Ian Scott, which James also relit on tour.
James' recent designs include LOOP, directed by Kathryn King, and Pepper & Honey, directed by Mathilda Branson; James has also recently expanded his design horizons as Assistant Lighting Designer for LD Ben Cracknell on the 2021 UK tour of Grease The Musical. Whereever possible, James loves to investigate how light can support the narrative of a production, especially in new writing or adaptations with a strong social motive, but it hardly needs mentioning that he can never resist the razzle-dazzle of a big musical or pantomime when the opportunity arises!
